How to treat or cure Ulcerative Colitis, Chrons, IBD, naturally through diet

Ulcerative colitis and Chron's are diseases of the intestinal tracts. The bodies immune system starts attacking it's own cells causing inflammation and bleeding. Ulcerative colitis usually starts in the rectum and spread upward through the large intestine. Chron's can affect the entire tract from small to large intestine. Thankfully there is a natural and healthy alternative to typical drug treatment through healthy diet. I myself suffered with ulcerative colitis for 10 years before stumbling upon this. I have now been able to slowly taper off all meds over the last couple of years and remain symptom free.

The basic idea behind this diet is that the immune system starts overreacting due to too much of the "bad bacteria" in your system. To heal it needs more of the probiotics or "good bacteria". Probiotics are found in fermented products like yogurt and pickles. Bad bacteria feeds on things like sugar and processed grains. So step one is to avoid at all costs sugar and processed grains. Examples, (soda, fruit juice, white bread, cake, cookies). Things like fruit or brown rice are still ok since they are in their natural state and have not had the fiber stripped from them. If you are really experiencing bad inflammation though you might want to avoid these as well until things calm down a bit.

You must increase your probiotic consumption. There are several ways to do this. I tried many probiotic supplements and got best results with one called Primal Defense. You can buy this in 180 caps sizes on ebay(cheaper) or health food store (more expensive). I take 4 in the morning and 4 at night but if symptoms are present you should take 6 each time. You might feel a little worse for a couple of days as your intestines get use to the different bacteria setting in but then things will get much better. I noticed a huge difference after about 5 days.

    3

Buy a yogurt maker. You can get pretty good yogurt at the store as long as it is plain with no added sugar and preferably full fat for the energy it provides. But with your own yogurt maker you can ferment it longer and therefore get a greater content of probiotics. I use one called Yogourmet that i got at amazon. I put in two quarts of milk (goats milk is better if you can find it since it's easier to digest) add 1/2 cup of plain yogurt as a starter. Let it sit and ferment from 24-30 hours or so and then enjoy. Drink at least two cups a day.

    4

Any time you have meat also eat some fermented food to aid in digestion. The best product i've found for this are Bubbies pickles. You can find these at many stores. They are not pasteurized so they still have all the enzymes and probiotics to help digestion and heal your intestinal tract. You can also find many places online that sell organic fermented foods like Sauerkraut, Kombucha, Kim-chi etc. or you can buy a book on fermentation and make your own.

Be sure to consult with your doctor while doing this. You shouldn't stop medication all at once. Wait till you start feeling better and then gradually start tapering off while consulting with your doctor.
