The kidneys filter many of your body's toxins from the blood, keeping the rest of your vital organs clean and healthy. When kidneys can't do their job properly, other parts of the body are prone to disease and infection, which will eventually cause death. Take care of your kidneys to promote health and longevity.
Vegetables
A healthful renal diet includes heavy amounts of vegetables rich in antioxidants. Red bell peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, garlic and onions are excellent foods for the kidneys and contain ingredients that can protect against cancer.
Fruits
Fruits -- most berries, apples, cherries and grapes -- are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, which the kidneys thrive on. They can all be made into delicious juices or added to larger meals that may not be so kidney-friendly. They can also be combined with vegetables in salads, making dishes that are diversely healthy for the kidneys.
Oils and Lean Meats
Olive oil is also rich in antioxidants and can easily be combined with vegetables. Cook non-kidney-friendly food in olive oil. Egg whites and fish are protein-heavy and light on fat and toxins, which may weigh the kidneys down, but high on Omega-3 fatty acids and good cholesterol.
